First Sturgis Road Show in Harrisburg, PA

I really didn't know about this event until I seen the news mention it.  Thought it looked fun since we are working on getting our motorcycle licenses. We decided to go see what it was all about since it had Sturgis associated with it.

Saturday was a really bad weather day with the flooding and tornado warnings, however I think it worked in our favor that not a lot of people showed up. So, we get to the ticket booth to buy the tickets and was shocked they they wanted $25 per person.  I thought to myself that is too expensive there better be something special here to warrant that crazy price!

This is the bike they gave away!
After getting through the gate we seen to the left a huge stage and suddenly it became clear about the price, there was a concert also. Cool, neither of us have been to a concert since 1986. It wasn't until I seen who was playing that we got excited, Bachman & Turner (you know from BTO) and Styx were playing. SWEET!!!

We spent all day looking at the bikes and booths. I realized that the turn out was not so great and there were not a lot of bikes or vendors there. There was not a lot of promotion about this event. No one on my facebook or twitter accounts were talking about it and I have over 400 people on my personal facebook alone. A lot of my friends are also into motorcycles and yet I didn't hear them talk about it either.  Did anyone other than the people that happened to watch that part of the news that night or the people that live near the Farm Show even know about it? If the Farm Show or some of these vendors had engaged their audience better the turn out would of been fantastic.

All in all we had a great time! Talked to a lot of nice people and the bands were GREAT. Styx was the best part of the night. They still know after all these years how to WoW a crowd!  LOVED IT! Can't wait to see this show put on next year.

I hope the Farm Show and the vendors jump on social media. Trust me it gets your name out there and when people know where and when a cool event is going to be you will be the one that helps them find it and YOU! This is where our company can help!

Why is social media important for businesses and brands?????

Put yourself in the consumer frame of mind........

When you're siting at home after a long day at work ready to watch your favorite program, movie or sporting event and you have to sit though more annoying commercials than the actual program you wonder why you haven't bought TiVo yet! Who wants to waist their time watching commercials, GET TO THE MOVIE ALREADY!

How about in the morning on your way to work ready to jam out to your favorite music and all you hear are ads and chatty radio personalities. Thank God for satellite radio!!!! Get rid of the ads and radio personalities and it's time to get my groove on.

Okay! So, where and how can companies get their brand or product out and not annoy everyone? Why not let the consumers be a part of your company? Hmmmmmmm could it be that easy? Yes, brands and catchy commercials do help bring more people in your door but if you don't have good referrals you might as well give up.

What do you mean??? It is simple! When someone goes to buy a product now days they will do an internet search on it to see what others are saying about it. I can tell you that is what I do. I don't buy anything now days without researching the reviews. Ads only get me to the door but if your product has more bad reviews than positive I will be looking at other alternatives.

When you have a Facebook or Twitter company account you can turn the tides in your favor. Be "part" of the community. Let them speak their minds and be there to find a solution. Let the consumer know that you CARE and HEAR them. When people feel like they are a part of the company they will be more willing to defend and recommend it.
